I’m always on the look out for an excuse to buy more gear for running. And for the Ultras I’ll be running this year I’m going to need a lightweight, waterproof outer layer. Something that can pack away small, is light to carry and with a hood if possible.
It needs to be warm too.
I currently own a Montane Featherlite Smock – nice piece of kit, very light. But it’s more of a windproof than waterproof layer. It will handle a light shower, but I don’t fancy relying on it if I’m stuck in a downpour.
Visiting my local Cotswold Outdoor shop a week ago I noticed a nice looking possibility. It’s a new product out this year from Rab.
Introducing the Rab Spark
At 260 grams it’s fairly lightweight. Waterproof and has a hood.
I want one!
It’s currently selling for £130, so I’ll keep my eyes open and see if I can find it on sale anywhere.
In the meantime I’ve bought a disposable poncho from ebay for a quid! It ticks most of the boxes, but doesn’t look quite as cool 🙂
If anyone can suggest a good lightweight jacket for running that can rival the Rab Spark then I’m really keen to hear. Please leave a comment below.
Thanks
